In these summer days I was looking for some ideas to do a Tennis bracelet, so grazing in the web, I have found this wonderful bracelet, made with beads, but very similar to a true jewel.
Me ne sono così innamorata che ho deciso di realizzarlo a tutti i costi ,anche se richiede una tecnica particolare (CRAW= tessitura ad angolo retto cubico) che non avevo mai provato.
Ho scoperto infatti che l'artista che lo ha realizzato ha generosamente realizzato un video ed un tutorial scritto acquistabile su Etsy.
E così mi sono riguardata più volte il video, ho seguito le istruzioni passo, passo, ho provato e riprovato e finalmente ...sono riuscita....davvero una grande soddisfazione.
E visto che ero sopravvissuta alla realizzazione del braccialetto ho deciso di realizzare anche gli orecchini ed il bellissimo anello.

Questi gioielli erano così vicini alla mia personale passione per l'Art Decò che ero desiderosa di conoscere l'artista che li aveva realizzati anche perché seguendo le istruzioni mi sono resa conto che il disegno e le soluzioni tecniche erano assolutamente originali e solo un grande artista poteva averli concepiti.

Ho così scoperto che l'artista che li ha realizzati è Gianna Zimmerman, olandese, ma con papà italiano, una delle più importanti creatrici di bijoux al mondo, insomma una vera e propria VIB (very important beader)! Ha avuto anche la prima pagina su una delle più importanti riviste internazionali di perline, la mitica Bead and Button:
These jewels were so near to my personal passion for Art Decò that I was very interested to know the so special artist who had created them. Infact reading her tutorials I realized how the design and the technique were absolutely unique and only a great artist could have designed them.
In her projects beads willingly seat as little trained dogs to create exactly what Gianna has decided in her mind.
I have so discovered that the artist is Gianna Zimmerman, dutch but with an italian father, one of the most important beader in the world...really a VIB (Very Important Beader).
Her projects have been also published in one of the greatest beading magazine of the world: BEAD&BUTTON.

1) come è iniziata la tua passione per la creazioni di gioielli?
Ho iniziato a lavorare con le perline quando il mio capo mi comunicò che non avrei potuto continuare ad effettuare ore straordinarie, e quindi avevo necessità di un hobby che mi aiutasse a incrementare le entrate. Ma non appena ho iniziato a lavorare con le perline è stato un vero colpo di fulmine!
1)How your beading passion begin?
1) I started beading because my boss told me I wasn't allowed to work overtime anymore, so I needed a hobby to make up the financial difference not to get in debt. But as soon as I started I fell in love with beading :-)
2) quale è il ruolo delle perline nella tua esistenza?
Il mio hobby/lavoro è l'aspetto più importante della mia vita.
Quando mi sento triste, creare gioielli mi è sempre di grande aiuto nel concentrarmi profondamente su qualcosa che devia l'attenzione da ciò che mi preoccupa.
Pertanto ha un effetto terapeutico su di me.

Anche insegnare ad altri come lavorare con le perline è diventato per me ugualmente importante. Poco dopo avere intrapreso la pubblicazione di video su Youtube , ho iniziato a ricevere messaggi da tante persone che mi ringraziavano per i video tutorial e mi esprimevano quanta gioia avevano regalato alla loro vita, a tal punto che ho compreso quale era lo scopo della mia esistenza: avere la felicità di creare gioielli e ricambiare questa gioia.
2) Which role beading has in your life?
My hobby/work is the most important thing in life. When I feel sad I noticed beading always helps me to focus on something else then the thing I'm sad about. So it's therapy for one. And to teach others how to bead has become important as well. After a while on youtube I started receiving messages that people are so thankful for video's I have put up and how it made a difference in their life however small or big that I final understood what my on purpose in life is. To bead and pay I forward :-)
3) quando e come è iniziata la passione per l'ART DECO' ?
Non è mai iniziata....è sempre stata innata in me. Da bambina guardavo i film muti e amavo i grandi classici del cinema con Humphrey Bogart che erano i miei film preferiti in assoluto.
Prendevo lezioni di danza per imparare a ballare il tango dopo avere visto Rodolfo Valentino ed amavo danzare.
Ho frequentato al college la Scuola di Moda e disegnavo abiti ispirati allo stile Charleston e completi anni 50. Quando ho iniziato a vendere su eBay offrivo cartoline degli anni 1920 e 1930 degli attori del cinema. Dunque questo periodo è sempre stato presente dentro di me tanto da poter dire che se ho vissuto una vita precedente, certamente ho vissuto tra gli anni 20 e 50.
3) when and how did your passion for Art Decò begin?
It never "began" it was always there.
As a kid I would watch the silent movies, and loved the old classics with
Humphrey Bogart being my absolute favourite. I took dancing class to learn how
to tango after watching Rudolph Valentino and loved dancing. I went to fashion
school college and I was designing clothes there inspired from Charleston
dresses to 3 piece 1950's lady suits. When I sold on eBay I was
selling vintage 1920/30's postcards of movie stars. So it's always been in me. I
always say if I had a previous life I'm pretty sure I lived during the 20's to
50's.
4) come hai trasferito la tua passione per l'Art Decò ai bijoux realizzati con le perline?
Ho scoperto attraverso YouTube che i video più visti sono quelli che trattano i gioielli vintage in stile art Decò. Sono gioielli che le persone possono portare per occasioni importanti , o quando vogliono sentirsi delle regine ,come anche semplicemente tutti i giorni. Gioielli portabili, realizzabili divertendosi.
La mia tecnica CRAW (cubic right angle wave) è stata molto apprezzata e per me è una grande soddisfazione avere i "feed back" positivi di tante persone che felici mi scrivono : "alla fine sono riuscita!".
4) I found out through youtube that are
most watched video's are those done on art deco vintage style jewellery. Thing
is like the bangle you made, you can wear it as a prom queen, or as a bride, as
well as just for fun out there doing every day jewellery. I think people are
looking for jewellery for that kind of jewellery, easy to make, sell of your
wrist, and just make another one cause it was fun to make. And the amount of
feedback on people finally tackling the Cubic Right Angle Weave stitch was a
bonus for me personally. I love it when people go "I finally got it" :-).
5) Progetti per il futuro?
Come designer di gioielli non intendo cristallizzarmi a un determinato "stile"
Andrò ovunque le mie perline mi porteranno. Ma per il mio primo libro ho scelto l'Art Decò e quindi il prossimo anno sarò impegnata a preparare gioielli per questo progetto letterario, dopodiché vedrò dove il Signore mi condurrà.
Qualora il libro non venga accettato per la pubblicazione, lo pubblicherò personalmente.
In questi anni mi sono riproposta di pubblicare 52 tutorial all'anno, cioè uno ogni settimana.
Al momento sono in ritardo di due settimane poiché ho preparato tre progetti da presentare al
Bead &Button show del prossimo anno.
Dopo l'ottobre 2017, completati gli impegni che ho già programmato probabilmente mi dedicherò all'embroidery. Vi invio la foto di un drago progettato per una collana.

Qualora il libro non venga accettato per la pubblicazione, lo pubblicherò personalmente.

As a
designer I don't want to pinpoint myself down to a "style". I'll take whatever
and wherever my beads lead me. But for my first book proposal I have pinned it
down to art deco. I don't know if it will be accepted or not yet, but if it
does, next year will be completely focussed on just making art deco jewellery
for the book. I don't know if there will be a second book if it does get
accepted. I will t take it one year at the time and see where God will take me
next :-)
6) come sensibilizzare le persone al valore dei bijoux realizzati a mano?
Non ho capacità persuasive e sono una pessima venditrice. Semplicemente lascio che i miei gioielli parlino per me. O te ne innamori oppure no.
E sicuramente i gioielli di Gianna parlano da soli, di un mondo di pura grazia ed eleganza che nasce dal profondo del cuore di questa artista unica .
Speriamo che il suo libro venga pubblicato al più presto perché certamente sarà uno scrigno di meraviglie preziose!
This years new years resolution was to put up 52 patterns on Etsy in 52 weeks. I'm 2 weeks behind on that because of submitting 3 patterns to the Bead & Button show for next year. I have to catch up on that one first. Although I might have not been accepted yet to make the book as from January to October I will be making art deco designs. Even if rejected I do plan to make that book it will just be self published instead. After October 2017, well I probably get back to bead embroidery, there's an embroided dragon laying around that still needs to become a necklace. :-) -see attachment-

I don't persuade, I'm a
horrible sales person. I just let my jewellery do my talking for me. Love it or
leave it. :-)
And surely Gianna jewels speak by themselves of a world full of pure grace and elegance which spring from the deep of the heart of a unique artist.
We hope his book can be published as soon as possible because surely it is a jewel-case full of precious wonders.
