Perline della vecchia Europa - OldWorldBeads

 

   Anna amica di cavalli e sempre pronta a nuove avventure, anche di perline (nella foto sotto con il suo cavallo Rubin)

mi ha commissionato una collana da regalare a sua suocera. Così ho pensato a un disegno classico reso però originale da queste bellissime gocce di cristallo dal colore cangiante verde/blu. Ho aggiunto delle singolari rondelle microsfaccettate  di ametista verde (altrimenti detta prasiolite) dal colore delicatissimo per controbilanciare l'intensità del colore delle gocce.

Rondelle in argento 925 di Artbeads http://www.artbeads.com/ per un' aggiunta di luce scintillante.
Non poteva  mancare qualche perla dal colore grigio e di forma irregolare  per rimanere in tema marino (visti i colori del mare dell'insieme).

Le stupende gocce le ho trovate nel suo negozio dove è possibile trovare non solo perline di cristallo molto particolari, ma soprattutto ... Karen , una persona tanto gentile , quanto appassionatissima di tutto ciò che è originale e che richiama un po i tempi dell'Art Decò della vecchia Europa.

Le ho chiesto di fare una presentazione di se stessa ed ecco quello che ha scritto per noi:

    " Da circa 23 anni ho iniziato ad acquistare vecchia bigiotteria,anche rotta, ai mercatini e nei negozi di oggetti di seconda mano, per utilizzare i componenti e le perline per gioielli disegnati da me. In epoca pre-Internet  e prima del boom internazionale  delle perline ci si poteva considerare fortunati di avere almeno un negozio decente di perline nella propria città. Come è cambiato il mondo della bigiotteria! E allora non potevo neanche immaginare che quei primi fili rotti di perle false mi avrebbero portato alle mie più incredibili e meravigliose avventure da ricordare.

Ho continuato ad accumulare una imbarazzante ed enorme scorta  di perline, ma non mi è mai capitato di stancarmi di acquistarne di nuove. Ancora adesso mi appassiona imparare nuove tecniche e risolvere i problemi che man mano si presentano.  E venne il momento in cui i miei lavori erano esposti in diverse gallerie e boutiques del paese, ma rendermi conto che le persone acquistano ciò che io creo, continua ad essere una esperienza eccitante ogni volta che organizzo una vendita.
Mi è stato chiesto di partecipare come invitato d'onore alla festa di una galleria:accolta con un bicchiere di champagne e festeggiata è stato per me un momento davvero emozionante e che mi ha resa piena di orgoglio. ( e ogni tanto  mi fermo a pensare: " wow, ma è davvero capitato a me?).

   Quando un pacchetto di perline è in arrivo...mi sento sempre come una bambina che sta aspettando il Natale, sperando che il postino consegni prima possibile! E' una emozione ogni singola volta, che con il tempo non si è mai affievolita. Penso che nel mondo delle appassionate di perline tutte condividiamo questa eccitazione infantile...tutte amiamo ricevere pacchetti di nuove perline.
Recentemente, ho dovuto spostarmi nel Midwest, per assistere mia madre. Non era possibile lasciarla sola anche solo per poche ore e così dovevo trovare un lavoro che potessi svolgere a casa.  Il  ricordo  della mia elettrizzante passione di ricevere nuove perline, mi ha ispirato l'idea di aprire un mio negozio su Etsy e così è nato il mio negozio OldWorldBeads.

Ho incontrato tante persone divertenti e tanti simpatici e adorabili amici. E anche l'idea di comprare sempre nuovi rifornimenti di perline non è poi così male!  Sono molto felice quando qualche cliente decide di acquistare alcune delle mie perline preferite... Adoro preparare i pacchetti da spedire... consapevole che ai miei clienti arriverranno delle perline bellissime.
E ho anche un nuovo progetto a breve: aprire un altro negozio su Etsy di rosari."

   Certo che se le perline, le pietre, i cristalli possono dare così tanta gioia a chi le guarda, le indossa, le vende e le compra...che abbiano anche loro una piccola anima?
  
Anna, a horsy friend of mine, always ready for new adventures, of beads too, ordered to me a necklace to gift  her mother in law. I decided for a classic style, but with an original touch for these wonderful glass drop beads in an iridiscent  green/blu colour.  I have added microfaceted wonderful green amethyst (prasiolite) in a fine light mint  green to counterbalance the deep colour of the drops. In the center of the necklace two recycled teal glass rondelles handmade in Ghana and little smooth mint green rondelles handmade in Java- Indonesia. Silver stardust rondelles to add some sparkling. Some gray irregular pearls just to remain in a marine  theme.
And now I cannot help to introduce Karen, the owner of the virtual shop on Etsy: OLDWORLDBEADS. 
Only in her shop I could find the drops I have used in this necklace and where you can find very original and rare beads, but what is more important...Karen is not only an extremely kind seller, but she is very fond in everything is nice and original and which reminds Art Deco period of Old Europe!
I have asked her to introduce herself for my blog and this is what she very kindly has sent to me:
"It's been 23 years since I started buying old broken jewelry at yard sales and secondhand stores, so I could use the beads to make my own designs. Pre-Internet and pre-international beading frenzy, you were lucky to have one decent bead store in your city. How things have changed! I had absolutely no idea that those first broken strands of faux pearls would lead to some of my most incredibly wonderful adventures and memories.
I have built up an embarrassingly large bead stash, but I never seem to tire of buying more. I still love learning new techniques and problem solving. At one time, I had my work in several galleries and boutiques around the country, but the realization that other people will pay money to own what I create still delights me every time I have a sale! Being asked to participate in an invitation-only show, and being honored with a one-woman gallery show & champagne reception were tremendously cherished and proud moments for me. (and I sometimes stop and think "Wow, that really happened to me!")

When a package of new beads is on its way...I am still a little girl awaiting Christmas, hoping the mailman will bring it TODAY!!!... Its a thrill every single time, and it never grows old. I believe that everyone in the 'beading sisterhood' shares this almost shivery, childlike excitement... we all LOVE getting packages of new beads!!

Recently, I had to move to the Midwest, to help my elderly mother. There was no way I was going to leave her alone for hours at a time, so I needed a way to make some money from home. Thinking about that little electric thrill of getting new beads in the mail inspired me to open my own bead shop on Etsy, and that is how Old World Beads was born.

I have met so many lovely people and I have made some wonderful friends. Having a true need to purchase bunches of beads isn't half bad either! I just love it when someone decides to buy some of my favorite beads... I really enjoy wrapping up the orders and shipping them out...knowing that my customers have beautiful new beads on the way!

My little jewelry shop is closed for now, but I am planning and designing wonderful things for a new rosary shop that I will open on Etsy in the near future!"

But if beads, gemstones and crystals can give so a great happiness when  somebody looks at them, sells, buys or wear them ...is it possible they have a little soul too?

Rosalinda and Giorgio just married!

   Ecco la collana che ho preparato per una cara amica, Rosalinda che il 6 giugno ha sposato Giorgio,

il suo amore da...una vita!

Rosalinda ama il blu e così ho scelto una delle pietre più blu esistenti e cioè la iolite in belle gocce tondeggianti. e l'ho abbinata all'azzurro unico e speciale  dell'acqua marina. Ho aggiunto stelline per ricordare un cielo stellato e palline diamantate per ricordare i raggi della luna per augurare un amore profondo come il cielo e  cristallino come il mare.

   This is the necklace I have prepared for a dear friend, Rosalinda who in June has married my dear friend Giorgio, her great love for a long time. The preferred colour of Rosalinda is blue, so that I have chosen the "bluest" gemstone of the mineral world. I have found very nice big round drops which I have combined with aquamarine rondelles. I have added little stars and stardust beads to remind moon rays to wish a love deep as the sky and crystal-clear as the sea.

 

Proprietà della IOLITE

 

   La iolite con le sue sfumature viola /blu/grigie, porta lo spirito del viaggio, dei sogni, dell'intuizione, dell'esplorazione e l'illuminazione.

E' conosciuta come il "compasso dei Vichinghi" che utilizzavano questa pietra per orientarsi nelle loro avventurose navigazioni nell'oceano atlantico, perché la proprietà della iolite (pleocroismo) di cambiare colore cambiando di 90° l'angolo di visuale consentiva di identificare la posizione del sole anche quando il sole non era visibile o era coperto. Veniva infatti chiamata  "pietra del sole".

La iolite aiuta a recuperare l'equilibrio, ci rafforza nell'assumerci risolutamente le nostre responsabilità e a tenere duro e a credere in noi stessi nelle avversità.

Insomma una bussola per navigare nel mare e...nell'esistenza!

 

IOLITE Healing properties

    Iolite with her shifting shades of violet/blue, carries the spirit of journey, of dreams and intuition, of exploration and illumination.

It is known as the "Viking's compass" and provides the vision to move us physically and spiritually from one realm to the next.

Leiff Eriksson and other viking explorers who ventured far out into the Atlantic Ocean, away from coastline that would help determine position, used thin pieces of iolite as the world's first polarizing filter. Looking through an iolite lens, then could determine the exact location of the sun  and navigate safely to the New World and back.

Pleochroism property of iolite is very pronounced, producing different colours when the stone is seen through different positions when blue can shift to a yellow gray or honey colour and even to a clear light blue.

Iolite helps in recovering balance, it strengthens the resolve  to take on responsability and carry through and provides self assurance and endurance in adverse situations.
